2. What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit? All new clients are asked to fill out a brief Health Information and Consent Form. I sit and discuss the form with you after you fill it out and discuss your goals for the massage. Then I will leave the room and let you get undressed and under the sheet on the table. When you are settled I will perform the massage. A few minutes before the end of your session, I will leave the room so you can get dressed. Take your time getting up. Some people feel dizzy after a massage.
3. What do I wear during the massage? For a full body massage, most people undress completely. However, you may choose to wear underwear. I will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.
4. What do I do during a massage therapy treatment? Make yourself comfortable. If I want you to adjust your position, I will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions or at any time.
5. How will a massage feel? Your session will start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. A lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. Do not hesitate to ask questions or mention if you feel any discomfort so that I can use another approach or technique.
6. How long will a massage treatment last? The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60- to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation.
7. How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment? Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. After a massage, a hot Epsom salt bath is recommended to encourage the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from the massage treatment.
8. How often should I receive a massage? The answer depends on the reasons for receiving the massage. If a client comes for some injury relief, and to relieve chronic tightness that is interfering with their daily lives in some way, weekly sessions may be necessary for a while to build on each session's improvement in their relief and healing. The effects of massage such as improved circulation, toxin release, tension release, overall feelings of good health accumulate over time, so it’s a good idea to have regular sessions. For those who use massage as preventive care and managing the daily stress in their lives, once a month is about the norm. They may shorten the time between massages during stressful periods. Some come more often just because they enjoy it that much.
9. I'm pregnant. Is it OK for me to get a massage? Pregnancy massage is available after 12 weeks. Additionally, please have your doctor/midwife sign the consent form prior to your first massage treatment.Top ↑
10.Testimonials:
"Adria's experience is evident the minute she puts her hands on you. As a massage therapist myself, I am very picky about my massages. And after going to Adria, I hesitate to go to anyone else. She connected with my body the first time as if she'd been massaging me for years. She found areas that I didn't even realize were affecting me, but the difference I felt after her massage showed me how much they were. It is obvious that Adria really loves what she does and truly cares about giving a deeply therapeutic treatment. I highly recommend Adria to anyone who is a massage connoiseur or wants more than just a light superficial massage." H.B.
"I recently started a new activity, and a fitness program. Adria has supported me in using my body correctly, recovering from injuries, and becoming more balanced, strong, and flexible. Massage has helped keep me "in the game" and on track with my goals. It's an investment that pays off many times over (and leaves me feeling great, as well)." Linda Eskin
"I have been a Doctor of Chiropractic for twelve years in San Diego. After having three sessions with Adria I have felt great relief from pain in my arms and back due to the nature of work I do. I will continue to see Adria to keep me healthy and stay in shape to provide all the chiropractic adjustment I do for my patients on a daily basis." -Dr. P. Rardin
"Adria is a true healer. My experiences with her always left me feeling much relieved and relaxed. I would recommend her without hesitation." -Barbara Heller
"Adria just has that special magical touch. You definitely get the feeling very quickly that she knows what she is doing for some real healing and not just a "feel good" massage. I would recommend her anytime." -Carl Romaner
